AAU has organized the Asian Festival since 1977. The name was changed in 1995 to the Asian Pacific Festival to better represent the contribution of the Pacific Islander communities. The festival is organized to educate the community-at-large about the diverse Asian and Pacific Islander culture, and to preserve the cultural heritage of the ethnic communities.
These classroom programs assist new arrivals to develop basic English language skills while they become culturally oriented to the United States. Students are then assisted in employment or referred to an appropriate regular community school or adult education program. The classroom uses a natural approach with everyday English, in a setting of bilingual support.
Individual, family and group counseling are provided to help clients improve psychological and social functioning. Counseling is provided in culturally appropriate ways while addressing difficulties that clients encounter in the assimilation process. AAU also provides alcohol and other drug treatment for youth and adult.
